Over the weekend local residents, families and visitors filled Publix bags with books for $15 to raise money for the Friends of the Fort Myers Beach Library. $2,000 was raised from sales and donations.
The books that are sold every year are either pulled from circulation at the library or they are donated to the library for the bookstore. Many donations the library gets are duplicates, so they also go into the book sale.
The community was ready for the book sale this year with people waiting for the doors to open on Saturday and others returning on Sunday to spend another $15 to fill their bags with more books.
The money raised goes to the Friends of the Library for supplies for the bookstore, to enhance the library or towards a scholarships at FSW.
