After a week of contract negotiations, Ron Martin was unanimously voted in as the new Fire Chief by the Fort Myers Beach Fire Commissioners. He replaces Matt Love who accepted a job in Minnesota. Martin begins immediately and Love will stay on until December to make the transition smooth. Martin will be our first guest on Beach Talk Radio Saturday morning.
Chief Martin has served in the fire and emergency medical services field since 1992. Over the course of his career Chief Martin has had the opportunity to serve several communities in the Greater Chicago area, and various capacities, until relocating with his family to Southwest Florida. Chief Martin worked with Lee County EMS, until being hired as a Firefighter with the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department in 2003.
Chief Martin received designation as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) from the Center of Public Safety Excellence, has obtained the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Designation, Florida Association of Special Districts Certification, and holds a Master’s Degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management from Long Island University. He also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management with an emphasis on shifting organizational culture, an Associate of Science Degree in Fire Science Technology, and is a Florida State Paramedic.
