On Thursday FEMA announced the agency has approved more than $90 million in funding to support more than 50 recovery and hazard mitigation projects in Florida communities affected by Hurricanes Helene, Milton and other past disasters.

On the list is over $678,000 for the Town of Fort Myers Beach to repair and replace public park equipment after Hurricane Ian. The money will be used to help rebuild Newton Park.
Newton Park was totally destroyed by Hurricane Ian. Before the storm the pool had cheeki hut shade structures, easy beach access, restrooms, showers, and water fountains. While the town works on rebuilding the park, there is currently paid parking and mobile bathroom facilities.
Florida received more than $79 million in awards under the Public Assistance program. The program helps fund emergency measures and permanent disaster recovery work for local communities.
