At 9AM this morning well-known Fort Myers Beach resident Monica Schmucker will file the paperwork to become a candidate for the Lee County School Board. Schmucker intends to run for the county-wide seat now occupied by Kathleen Morgan.
Before attending law school Monica taught English at both Miami Dade County Public Schools and Miami Dade College until moving to Indiana where she attended law school. After law school, Monica clerked for Judge Kathleen Lang in LaPorte County Superior Court and later joined the Office of the Indiana Attorney General as a Deputy Attorney General.
Monica and her husband Dustin have two children in the Lee County School District school system.
A kick-off fundraising event is being planned and when those details become available we will share them here on our website and on our Facebook page.
Monica will go down as an actual game changer in LCSD history. This is just her start of making positive changes for the kids and community. Let’s go!

I have experienced “Monica in action” as board President of the Women’s Club, as our Legal Advisor for Friends of Lovers Key and most recently in negotiations with the Lee County School Board to save our Beach School. Monica loves America because her parents fled tyranny in Cuba seeking freedom here. She has experienced the American Dream and she will fight to see that every child in Lee County schools does same. I worked directly with Monica and three other FMB parents on the Ad Hoc Committee set up to save the Beach School. They were indefatigable in their efforts. Not only is Monica well qualified to serve on the school board, she will help our island ensure the long term success and survival of the Beach School. She has my full support.🏝🙏💪🇺🇸
