The 16th annual Polar Bear Plunge took place this past weekend behind the Beach Bar on Fort Myers Beach.
About 100 people looked on as over 50 plungers put their bodies in danger in the 75 degree water of the Gulf of Mexico.
The Fort Myers Beach Polar Bear Club was started by Bill Schmidt, Ed Herbert and Doc Dewers 16 years ago on a whim. Every year a group of brave souls jump into the Gulf on New Year’s Day just to say they did it.
