Post Office Update

You may have seen our video at the post office this past Saturday when we spotted two rather large trailers in the post office parking lot on Carolina avenue. Could it be that those trailers will eventually be used as a temporary facility? We reached out to the Post Office to inquire about those trailers and here’s what we were told…

Ed, Good afternoon. Here’s our response to your inquiry:

The Postal Service is continuing to work toward solutions that will allow for improved service to our customers, including use of the trailers currently on site at the Fort Myers Beach location. Additional work is required to prepare the trailers for deployment, which is still ongoing. Once work is completed, the public will be notified.

While Amazon, UPS and FedEx have resumed delivery service to Fort Myers Beach, residents must drive to Jetport loop post office facility to pick up their mail. Residents cannot mail a letter anywhere on Fort Myers Beach either.

Vice Mayor Jim Atterholt told Beach Talk Radio Monday night that Florida Senator Rick Scott has made a second call to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and DeJoy is planning to call local officials on Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel this week to see what can be done to fix the situation.
