The Accounting Assistant & Payroll Specialist is responsible for reconciling Accounts Payable procedures, specifically, review receiving reports and invoices for correct detail; communicate with departments and vendors as needed to resolve issues; obtain approvals from appropriate supervisors; generate checks; print and file check reports/registers; process signed checks for mailing, checking and correcting mailing addresses as needed; reconciling credit cards; recording bank deposits and scanning cash receipts.

The Accounting Assistant & Payroll Specialist will perform payroll processes by reconciling time entries and  reporting communications, extracting and finalizing time entries, and entering or reviewing payroll data entry. Assist with compliance filings and workers’ compensation audits.

The Accounting Assistant & Payroll Specialist will work with coworkers as needed and provide backup coverage for other staff members on leave.

The Accounting Assistant & Payroll Specialist may processes general billing; review billing reports and  invoices for correct detail; communicate with patients or customers to resolve any issues; reconciles  accounts receivable subsidiary information to the general ledger and resolves discrepancies, sends  outstanding receivables to collections per policies and provides adjustments as required or per policies.

The Accounting Assistant & Payroll Specialist works as a team member, assisting other staff members in the  areas of planning, organizing, directing and evaluating information for the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control  District. The Accounting Assistant & Payroll Specialist ensures that the District incorporates up-to-date and  efficient accounting procedures into its everyday process. He/she will also perform routine internal audits for  assigned accounting operations. The Accounting Assistant & Payroll Specialist must have the courage to be an  innovator of the future, while also remaining respectful of policies established by the Fort Myers Beach Fire  Control District.

The Accounting Assistant & Payroll Specialists is expected to maintain open and frequent communication  with all ranks and team members, always speaking and representing the very best aspects of our District.  He/she will be responding to telephone inquiries and customer service requests concerning accounting and  financial operations under charge; provides resolution, information and direction accordingly. A strong sense  of ethics, integrity, honesty, straightforwardness, and moral stature are required.

2 years of full-time accounting experience is needed and experience in governmental accounting is preferred.
