Registration is now open for the 7th Annual Captiva Coastal Cleanup on October 3rd. Volunteers will remove marine debris from local waters and shorelines. Keep Lee County Beautiful invites boaters, paddlers, scuba divers and beachcombers to join the effort and help protect Captiva’s coastal environment.

Organized by Jimmy and Sarah Burnsed, the annual cleanup gives volunteers several ways to participate. Crews will head out by private boats, kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddleboards, while scuba divers and beachcombers tackle debris above and below the water.

For volunteers without their own vessel, Captiva Cruises will provide complimentary transportation for the first 40 registered participants to one of Captiva’s beautiful outer islands for a shoreline cleanup. Dockage for private boats, access to a Great Calusa Blueway launch for kayaks and canoes, and vehicle parking will also be provided.

Now in its seventh year, the Captiva Coastal Cleanup has grown into an annual community tradition. Over the years, volunteers have removed thousands of pounds of debris while reaching areas that can be difficult to access during traditional land-based cleanups.

“What makes the Captiva Coastal Cleanup special is that there is a way for almost everyone to get involved,” said Trish Fancher, Executive Director of Keep Lee County Beautiful. “Whether you’re arriving by boat, paddling into the mangroves, diving beneath the surface or walking the shoreline, every volunteer contributes to protecting this incredible coastal environment.”
