They’ve been open for months but never had a chance to host an official ribbon cutting due to the busy tourist season. The management team of The Smokin’ Oyster Brewery is inviting the community to their official ribbon cutting Friday, May 16th at 10AM.
Peter Ennis and Nick Ruland, who own Wahoo Willie’s and Snug Harbor restaurants, partnered with local resident Hank Leitnaker to reopen S.O.B. The land and building are owned by the Freeland Group.
S.O.B. was owned by the Freeman family and closed after Hurricane Ian did severe damage inside the building on September 28th 2022.
In June of 2023 Freeland purchased 4 parcels 340 & 401 Old San Carlos Boulevard, and 935 & 939 Third Street which included the S.O.B property.
The restaurant reopened at the end of 2024. The Ribbon Cutting on Friday, May 16th will be at 10AM and the community is invited to attend and help them celebrate.

– Screamin Aioli Shrimp – hand battered and lightly fried, tossed in screamin aioli sauce. An SOB classic everyone loves.
– Uncle Vinny’s Oysters – Fresh shucked, topped and roasted with secret shrimp and crab stuffing.
– Jerked Black Gulf Grouper – served over risotto, broccoli, topped with mango salsa, pineapple sweet chili sauce.
THE NEWLY OPENED SOB was great ! My friends from Minneapolis enjoyed their dinners that ranged from burgers to delicious seafood.
By the way. It’s worth going to see the culinary art of Chef Hank.
I highly recommend SOB for a place the locals and tourists are are always greeted by a warm beach welcome!

SOB’s never disappoints! The staff and food were awesome! I had the grouper special for Mother’s Day .. it was outstanding! My husband had the dynamite grouper and cleaned the plate! We ended with a slice of their homemade key lime pie that was amazing! We’ll be back!
Great place!
We LOVE this place! It is one of our favorites on FMB and we have never had a bad meal here. The scallops are amazing and we love the shrimp. Burgers were very tasty and the last time we were there, my husband had the special – Parmesan crusted grouper (I believe). He said it was outstanding. I love that they brought back some of the old menu items and added a few new ones. The staff is always amazing, the service is great and we will definitely be back!
One of my favorite spots to hit up when I’m in Ft. Myers. Food is exceptional and service is always pleasant and attentive. Keep up the good work and will be back soon!
The staff is great, amazing service, and the food is delicious! Great experience, I would definitely recommend!
Amazing service! And even better food! I got the 8oz fillet, juicy and I was able to cut it with a butter knife!
Staff was great food was better very much recommend
One of my favorites for the last 26 years but need to bring back the original chef soup (half chowder/half conch soup…thick thick thick, NOT LIQUID, half white, half red, not pink)
Kickass beach bread and wonderful LOCAL SHRIMP FROM OUR LOCAL DOCKS! Make sure it’s local shrimp and fish❤️❤️❤️❤️
When is Fire & DD&D coming?

We would come because we always loved SOB. However since opening the portion sizes are ridiculously small. The Shrimp is not from our Local shrimpers on San Carlos Island so we don’t go to any tourist local places anymore that don’t support our local shrimpers. Sorry!!
Thanks for the feedback Robert. I would like to invite you back to SOB, to meet me and the partners personally. I feel it’s upmost important to provide a great and hospitable experience and total customer satisfaction to everyone. There are reasons we choose to serve the gulf shrimp that we do. For one, our customers love them! Other reasons are consistency and availability of the large size that we serve. Feel free to reach out to me and I hope to see you at SOB soon! Thanks
We will be there!
