As expected Dan Allers was unanimously chosen to serve as Mayor of Fort Myers Beach at Monday’s Town Council meeting. Allers enters his 4th consecutive year as Mayor. Allers then nominated Scott Safford as Vice Mayor. That vote was also 5-0.
Jim Atterholt had been Vice Mayor for the last 3 years and let the council know at their last meeting he was ready to pass the baton.
That’s great for Scott for vice mayor. I would have liked to see Atterholt be mayor and was also time for Allers to pass the baton just like Atterholt did. We need different and new leadership for the island. It should really be the residents vote for who the mayor is. I’m sorry but it really should be one that is a homeowner on the island making decisions that impacts the owners on the island.
Atterholt lost me when he cited the reason for approving Seagate was because it didn’t increase density. Then, he turned around and approved Neptune, which doubled density.
His whole response of, “We’re in a post Ian world now”, showed that he felt that a responsible rebuilding of the island according to the Comp Plan that maintained as much of the islands identity as possible wasn’t as important to him as just slapping stuff up as quickly as possible regardless of whether the residents wanted it or not.
Agee 1000%. Hopefully he will be recalled as well.
I think if voters picked it would be Dan for a lifetime.
With all due respect, who are you polling? People are not happy with the lack of progress, the fact that we lost our FEMA discount, the ridiculous spending, the lack of transparency regarding why the vacant lot is not being sold, and vehicles being left on the island during the hurricanes when they should have been moved, etc. Atterholt wanted to pass the baton so we could have fresh ideas. Allers will hang onto it til he is forced to leave. It is holding back our island. He is a nice guy but is the least qualified.
Allers as mayor again is the definition of insanity.
Look in the mirror. Why don’t you run for Council next November.
Do you have any idea how many times you have used that same line? If someone says something you don’t like you come back with that line. Wow Steve, your childish posts are unbecoming. The only one I see here attack people more than you is Holly O. Do we all have to like Dan or you go after them?
