The City of Sanibel is distributing 3,200 complementary biodegradable bags to homeowners as the October 1st deadline for the elimination of polyethylene-based plastic bags from Sanibel’s yard waste stream approaches.

Polyethylene-based bags contaminate the mulch and compost products generated at the County horticulture processing site. The bags the City is distributing have been provided by Lee County.

Homeowners may pick-up their complementary bags, while supplies last,  at the front door of the City’s Public Works Offices, 750 Dunlop Road, 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

For questions regarding yard and horticulture waste management on Sanibel contact:  Sanpw@mysanibel.com or call 239-472-6397.
