The final Town Council vote to redevelop the 10-acre Red Coconut property has been pushed back to November 18th. The second public hearing was originally scheduled for this Monday but had to be moved because it was not properly noticed.

Town Council meetings have been scheduled for three consecutive Monday’s due to meetings being canceled due to Hurricane Milton. Meetings are typically held 2 weeks apart. The town is required to advertise for public hearings 10 days in advance. With the last meeting on Monday, October 28th and the next one planned for this Monday, November 4th, the 7-day window was not enough time to fulfil the state law of 10 days notice.

Seagate received approval from the Town Council on the 28th to move their project onto the second and final hearing. The vote was 4-1. Seagate purchased the 10-acre Red Coconut property in 2023 for $52 million and plan to build two 17-story condo towers, 4 single-famly homes, a beach club, a restaurant and several parks. If approved, final design for the project is expected to take a year.

  1. Can we stop with the accusations of our fellow islanders who are serving on the council being on the take from developers, lining their pockets with cash and other nasty statements. Our code doesn’t say 3 stories only, it’s complicated and not an easy job to balance getting our island rebuilt and listening to everyone’s opinion. Not one of those serving do not love this island and isn’t carefully considering all aspects when making their decisions. We won’t all agree as
We move forward but let’s not loss our respect for one another.

    • Their requirement for their position is to represent FMB residents. These “big and difficult” decisions should be put to a vote and that will be the end of the argument.

  2. If you want the beautiful Estero Island to look just like the other Florida peninsulas go ahead and approve anything the big money folks request for building heights! These developers are never going to experience living in the shadow of 10 (and higher)!

  3. Uh-ohh! Town caught with their pants down attempting to slip it in on the residents. One would expect those involved in scheduling meetings should know what the requirements are by now.
