Beach Baptist and the Rotary are teaming up to give away drywall to Fort Myers Beach residents. The original date for the giveaway, February 21st, has been pushed back to March 14th. The goal is to hand out 6,000 sheets of drywall.

Beach Baptist pastor Shawn Critser tells us that the cost for 6,000 sheets of drywall is about $100,000.Here’s more from Pastor Shawn…

The Dollar for Drywall Mission

Imagine the Unimaginable, this is what victims of Hurricane Ian are faced with daily since September 28, 2022. Imagine living in your home with only tarps covering your walls, using public showers and baths 5 months after the devastation. Or others living in yents and trailers on their properties while waiting for financial insurance claims to begin the rebuild. Some have the luxury of running generators for power. Others have started the rebuild and many others are waiting for insurance and or FEMA dollars to finalize so they may rebuild.

Beach Baptist Church and the Fort Myers Rotary Club are fundraising to serve the community of Fort Myers Beach by distributing 6,000 sheets of drywall with drywall screws, tape and mud to island residents impacted by Hurricane Ian.

On March 14, 2023, these 2 Organizations will Hand out 25 sheets to each Household. 25 sheets of drywall will help a family build a room wall to the ceiling so they have at least one secured and covered space to stay.

We’re hoping that any person who comes across this fundraiser will donate just $1 to our cause and help restore and rebuild Fort Myers Beach one home at a time. Your generous donations will provide relief for 240 homeowners on Fort Myers Beach. I

With Love and in His name,

In order to get the free drywall, you must show a valid Fort Myers Beach drivers license. Each household will be given 25 sheets plus mud, tape and screws. This is a first-come, first-serve situation so you may want to arrive early if possible. The giveaway begins at 9AM.

Last month 2,500 sheets were given away at the church, however, several families had to be turned away when the supply ran out. Also, this time around, according to Critser, the Sheriff’s Department will be on hand to help with the traffic.

  1. Thank you for this service. But please have a plan for traffic. Shutting down south-to-north traffic for 5 hours caused dozens (hundreds?) of people to miss doctor and other important appointments. Trying not to be too mean with this, but there are many other important things going on that cannot be completely disregarded like last time.

  2. I need to use a different type of proof. Since the hurricane i relocated but still have the land that my house WAS situated on. What other type of proof would be acceptable?

  3. I am a member of Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes MN. My wife and I have loved the Fort Myers area for years. I am a professional drywall hanger and drywall finisher who would love to help someone who does not have the means to pay for an install. My labor would be free. Only condition is we would need a place close to the job site to stay until the work is finished. Also need electricity and fresh water to run screw guns and mix taping mud. I would have to drive down due to the tools that I would have to transport. Thanks and God bless you.

  4. Could folks also use some type of proof of ownership? There are a lot of people struggling who don’t necessarily live on FMB, but own homes here.

  5. Can’t they do that off island? I had an appointment off the island & couldn’t get there. The Estero “parking lot” was ridiculous.
