The Beach Bar, which was located on I street before being wiped out by Hurricane Ian, received final approval to rebuild at Monday’s Fort Myers Beach Town Council meeting. Because owner Greg Boyd was requesting a rezone of the property it needed to go through two public hearings.

The project was unanimously approved by the LPA back in June.

Construction is expected to begin immediately and should take about 12 months before the doors officially reopen. There will be a groundbreaking ceremony in October which we will share once we know the official date.

The new Beach Bar, designed by Studio A.D. and to be built by Stevens Construction, will be located on its original site at 1668 I Street.

The new Beach Bar will encompass approximately 10,000 square feet in a three-story building. The first floor is designed to provide customers with a unique experience in keeping with its festive small-town vibe, and will house an open-air bar, stage and restroom trailer.

Owner Greg Boyd has owned the business since 2009. He told the Town Council on Monday that he believes the Beach Bar originally opened back in 1965. “We are a small town spot for the locals. 99% of the people who come to the Beach Bar walk in from the beach.” Boyd also said part of the deal he inherited from the previous owner was that he’s not allowed to have any chairs inside the building. They all need to be in the sand.

Musical acts that perform at The Beach Bar are primarily Blues focused.
