Over 100 people attended the Blessing of The Fleet service held on Sunday by St. Raphael’s Church at the Erickson and Jensen Shrimp docks. The Big Kahuna, Bishop Douglas Scharf came to town to help.

There was also a brief service of prayers, readings, and songs will begin, asking for safe journeys and a bountiful harvest for shrimpers, fishermen, and recreational boaters. The Bishop and clergy walked along the docks to bless the boats and crews currently in port.

Following the dockside blessings, the group proceeded to Salty Sam’s Marina, where they boarded a private vessel and headed into the bay to bless recreational boaters. The blessing boat traveled along the docks, passing the waterfront restaurants, under the bridge, and over to the Coast Guard Station for individual boat blessings. The route then continued past Snug Harbor and Nervous Nellie’s before returning under the bridge back to Salty Sam’s Marina.
