It took over 10 months for the Town of Fort Myers Beach to get final FEMA approval to demolish its destroyed Town Hall. Over the last 4 days the building was torn down and the debris is being removed.
The demolition did not cost any taxpayer dollars. The town registered the structure with iandebriscleanup.com like many town residents did to get demolition and debris removal taken care of and paid for. FEMA will also pay for a new Town Hall, up to exactly what the town had before. If the town decides it wants more on top of what it had before, taxpayers will have to cover that bill.
Town Manager Andy Hyatt has a vision for a new Town Hall. He believes Town Hall should be combined with a new Bay Oaks building, a one-stop shop for residents. Watch our interview with Hyatt on that topic HERE.
