On Sunday, The Fort Myers Beach Fire Department and LCSO responded to a report of a sink hole at 200 Estero Boulevard. There were no injuries, however, the road was closed for a period of time.
The town of Fort Myers Beach owns the stretch of Estero Boulevard from Lynn Hall Park to Bowditch.
The hole was quickly filled by town staff with plans to permanently fill the hole some time this week.
Sinkholes are the result of water collecting underground and lacking external drainage of some sort, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. As the water collects and circulates, it slowly erodes the bedrock and creates caverns and underground spaces.
