Traffic Light Firm Approved

The town council approved a $494,000 contract for Ajax Paving Industries to construct a traffic signal at Estero Boulevard and Old San Carlos Boulevard. Ajax was the lowest bidder for the project with the highest coming in at over $776,000. The light will be coordinated with another light Lee County is installing at Crescent and Estero Boulevard.

  1. Not to be misunderstood, this traffic light is part of a very large overhaul of San Carlos Blvd from Hurricane Pass all the way over to the new configuration at the base of the bridge at Time’s Square. This has been in the planning stages for several years. We have ALL had access to the plans for the road improvements throughout the entire process including many opportunities for public input. The county collaborated with the Town and was also held up in planning due to the outrageous and costly delay of the Margaritaville lawsuits. We would have already had those tax dollars coming in from Margaritaville as well as their road improvements if Conidaris hadn’t funded Chris Patton’s frivolous lawsuit.

  2. Doesn’t it make sense to try something before you spend 400,000 plus thousands of dollars on something that probably won’t help at all. Why don’t we put up some temporary signals and try it out first. I live on San Carlos island and I have been watching the traffic for years. Simple math. How many times does 2 go into 1. It don’t so moving a traffic light makes no sense. Let’s try it before we spend a lot of money.
