Ed Schoonover is the first Fort Myers Beach resident to officially file to run for Fort Myers Beach Town Council. Schoonover was recently appointed to the LPA.
He’s expected to face current council members Rebecca Link and John McLean and Fort Myers Beach resident Tom Brady. Town Council member John King is also considering running for reelection. Three seats will be on the ballot this November. The deadline to file is June 12th.
Nearly four years after the devastating Hurricane Ian, Fort Myers Beach is at an important crossroads. As our island continues to recover and rebuild, we need leadership that understands the balance between protecting what makes our community special and planning responsibly for the future.
That’s why I am proud to announce my candidacy for Fort Myers Beach Town Council.
Through my experience serving on the Local Planning Agency, Bay Oaks Recreational Campus Advisory Board, Anchorage Advisory Committee and the Charter Commission, I have worked hard to listen, learn, and help guide thoughtful decisions for our town. I believe we can move recovery forward while still protecting our neighborhoods, island character, infrastructure and quality of life.
My priorities are simple:
– Infrastructure before over-intensity.
– Protecting island character.
– Responsible redevelopment.
– Fiscal responsibility.
– Transparent, respectful leadership.
Fort Myers Beach deserves calm, experienced leadership focused on solutions – not division and confusion. I look forward to meeting with residents, listening to your concerns, and working together to build a stronger future for our island community.

Link. Brady. Scasny.
No more talking to the wall.
How do we vote for NO town council? Seriously, there’s no reason for it to exist. Turn it back to Lee County. At the very least, we remove a layer of taxation and they’ll be upfront and tell you they’re going to allow high rises on the beach, instead of spewing out a bunch of “ReSpOnSiBlE DeVeLoPmEnT” B.S. promises, as you can read above, and then betraying every word of it, just to do what Lee County would have done a better job of to begin with. And when I say this, understand that my opinion of Lee County is quite low, but this group of fork tounged liars constantly finds a way to slide under that bar.
