No renderings or LPA date set yet but here’s the concept of what the Wyndham property owners are planning. The Neighborhood Company is putting the plan together for the property owners.
The plan includes a 7,200 square foot tiki hut with outdoor seating, about 18,000 square feet for a mobile restaurant/bar concept with up to 9 trailers, live entertainment, a paid parking lot with 58 of 260 spots set aside for restaurant customers, and a recreational area on the beach.

The Wyndham was one of the most popular hangouts for south end residents and visitors.
Like nearly every other structure on the island it was completely destroyed by Hurricane Ian and eventually demolished. It’s a neary 12 acre piece of property. The application for this concept was submitted to the town last month.
The next step is for staff to go through the plan and send it back to the property owner before eventually going to the LPA and Town Council.

Great use of the property, for now.
At least they’ve covered food & entertainment that’s missing from the south end. And providing plenty of parking. Who needs a motel at this time when so many condo rental owners are struggling to recoup some of their losses. Will be a great attraction for the south end, especially within walking distance.
I love the idea. It will bring people down to the south and they can use the beach, the food trucks and santini plaza. Great way to make use of unsightly empty lots until they have a better plan.
I agree a pool would be a very welcome addition
So, no hotel?
I agree with Alexander, the Wyndham property owners have probably come to the conclusion that, given the current “leadership” on the town council and the legacy property owners, any plan for a replacement hotel would be met with so much resistance, its easier and faster to put up a food trailer park. I’ll wager that this idea will meet resistance as well.
We need a hotel at the south end. This concept may work better in the north end with a younger population that turns over weekly.
LOVE this over anything 17 stories!
This could be the dumbest idea I’ve seen on any rebuild on the island
Food Trucks ??? No pool. No fixed bathrooms ? Sounds like a carnival park.In an exclusive area..such a beautiful big property for a parking lot…..
The Wyndham hotel concept with the rooms around the pool and walking distant from bar to room and pool to room was best concept ever designed. We need a hotel on that end.
You still need a hotel on that end that’s where all the tourists hu g out and the pool and bar not the beach. The pool was packed the beach not so much. Please get a hotel down there
Wyndham should stop at this point because the owners are actually smart people and know how every new construction project on the beach turns into a war fueled by BOTH residents and the town staff. They are probably just holding off for this reason.
Hmmm… does the sidewalk shown on the top of the Plan allow for public access to the beach?
Wide beach access at the top of the drawing. South side. Where it always was.
Will be interesting to hear more about what a “mobile restaurant/bar concept with up to 9 trailers“ really is.
Will the restrooms be real or trailers as well?
Hope you can get a beverage and some mozzarella cheese sticks like you used to at the outrigger Tiki bar!
Restrooms will be high-end trailers like you might see at an outdoor event or were used at Snook Bite Marina mid-island for awhile. Again… movable before a storm.
Positive progress!!!
Great concept, needs a little work. I agree with Marcia, looks like too much parking. We don’t need more cars during peak season. Also, get rid of the tram all together. There’s never more than 5 people on it and it only slows traffic more than it already is. The trolly is great, use Beach Park and Ride and keep the cars off.
The tram was almost full yesterday. Maybe people coming from the south will park there and go south after sunset. Hope springs eternal
That’s a pretty big parking lot. I have concerns with drinking and driving. The southside residents will love it. It would be great if the free tram from the library could make trips to Santini plaza and stop at this property also.
I like it!!
