Scott Wirth has been the interim Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District Chief since Ron Martin resigned back in March. On Wednesday the Fire Board authorized their attorney to negotiate a contract to make Wirth permanent Chief.

Wirth was the only internal candidate that applied for the position and was the was the only candidate being considered for the job.

Wirth met one-on-one with board members over the past several weeks. Board member Ron Fleming (pictured in this story with Wirth) said Wirth “is an excellent candidate and I endorse his selection as Chief.” Board member Larry Wood said he likes Wirth’s “calm demeanor and that he is experienced at negotiating from both sides of the table.

Wirth has been with the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District since 2017 when he joined as Chief of Operations. Prior to that Wirth held the same position with the Fort Myers Fire Department.

Wirth joined the fire service as a volunteer firefighter in 1989. He began his career with the Placid Lakes Volunteer Fire Department until 1991, when he joined the Fort Myers Fire Department.

A contract for the board to approve is expected to be ready by the next Fire District Board meeting.
