The Fort Myers Beach Library Board is considering a higher millage rate to deal with staff increases, higher maintenance costs and an aging building.
The current library millage rate is .2799 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The Library Board is considering an increase to .2981. The library is its own taxing district and appears as a separate line on your tax bill, as does the fire district on Fort Myers Beach.
Two public hearings are scheduled to discuss the library budget for fiscal 2022-2023. They will be held on September 13th at 5:01PM and September 27th at 5:45PM. During the budget negotiations the millage rate can be lowered, it cannot be raised higher than the .2981 the board is considering.
