Residents in the city of Treasure Island in Pinellas County were quite surprised when Duke Energy flipped the switch after installing new road lights during a road construction project. Like Fort Myers Beach, Treasure Island is a barrier island. And like Fort Myers Beach, the turtles need protection.

We're almost one month into turtle season and Fort Myers Beach is up to 21 nests with the addition of 9 more this week. Bonita Beach added 12 and is now up to 41. Sanibel reports every two weeks so we'll get an update from them next Friday.

After the town's last Finance Director Walter Pierce quit abruptly in March after only five months on the job, the town is struggling with getting its audit done. The audit committee met Monday, hoping to see the final version of the audit, which is late once again. What was received was an incomplete document.
