If government doesn't get you one way, they'll get you another. While the town of Fort Myers Beach did pass a budget that does not raise taxes, nearly every fee a contractor pays, whether its for commercial or residential work, will increase in 2021. And, of course, that increase will trickle down to you.

It was an excellent turnout where local business owners had a chance to exchange ideas and talk shop as the beach prepares for what everyone hopes is a very busy season. Chamber Membership Lunch at Charley’s

Charley's Boathouse and Grill will host the the October Chamber membership lunch this Thursday from 11:30 to 1:00. Jacob Winge from the Everglades Wonder Gardens is the guest speaker. The cost is $25 for members, $35 for non-members. Charley's is located at 6241 Estero Boulevard.

Ding Darling Fees Increase

As of October 1st the entry fees for the J.N Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel have increased. The daily entry fee for vehicles will be $10 (up from $5) and the Refuge Annual pass will be $25 (up from $12). The biker and hiker fee of $1 stays the same.

Sanibel Extends Mask Mandate

The City of Sanibel Town Council has been meeting on a weekly basis to re-evaluate its COVID-19 State of Emergency. The council is meeting tonight to approve its 2021 budget. Prior to the meeting Mayor Kevin Ruane extended the State of Emergency for another 7 days.

As we reported last week, the team at TPI was expecting a financing term sheet to fund the construction that will lead to the Margaritaville resort on Fort Myers Beach. That term sheet was received and the two sides are now negotiating.
