Nuisance Abatement Board Ordinance Passes

By a vote of 3-2 the Fort Myers Beach town council approved an ordinance to create a 7-member Nuisance Abatement Board. The swing yes vote to get the ordinance passed was cast by Councilman Bill Veach. Mayor Ray Murphy and Vice Mayor Rexann Hosafros voted against.

Sanibel Ditching Plastic Bags

The City of Sanibel is distributing 3,200 complementary biodegradable bags to homeowners as the October 1st deadline for the elimination of polyethylene-based plastic bags from Sanibel's yard waste stream approaches.

Woman’s Club Opens Back Up

Things have been quiet at the Fort Myers Beach Woman’s Club thanks to COVID-19. However, the club recently announced that they are starting back up and will hold their first member meeting on Wednesday, October 7th. The program will be Mixology Masters– Getting Ready for the Upcoming Season. 

Bridge Maintenance Begins

Lee County has started working on the Big Carlos Pass Bridge. The work will be ongoing for about a month starting on the Bonita side of the bridge this week. Concrete repairs will be done to the bridge deck. These are only spot repairs, not the entire bridge. Be alert for lane closured during construction.

83 COVID Cases Reported on The Beach

There are now 57 active COVID-19 patients in Lee Health Hospitals. 71% of the ventilators and 28% of the ICU rooms are available with 9 COVID patients on ventilators and 15 in ICU. According to the Florida COVID dashboard a total of 83 cases of COVID have been reported on Fort Myers Beach since March 26.
