Fort Myers Beach Joins County Burn Ban

This week a burn ban was enacted for all of unincorporated Lee County. Fort Myers Beach followed the county's lead on the ban which includes: “outdoor burning ignition sources,” including campfires, bonfires and trash burning.

Bowditch Restrooms Hooked in and Ready

Lee County has informed us that the air conditioned restroom trailer facilities at Bowditch Park on Fort Myers Beach will open tomorrow. The permanent restroom building and surrounding boardwalk was heavily damaged by Hurricane Ian.

The First 10 Structures The Town Plans To Demo

Owners of 10 properties on Fort Myers Beach have been notified that, after 19 months of doing nothing, the structures on their property must come down. Those property owners will be notified that if the town has to take the structures down they will add the demo expense to their tax bills.

Beach Baptist Trailer Church Open For Business

As of this weekend the congregation at Beach Baptist will meet inside their new air-conditioned trailers. Service on Sunday is at 10:30. The trailers cost $120,000 which the Church started fundraising for back in April.

New Parking Perks For Beach Residents

Now through September 30th all Fort Myers Beach residents that have a valid town-issued parking pass can park in any town owned parking lot at no additional cost. During peak season residents with a pass can only park under the Matanzas Pass Bridge.

We get very excited when a Hurricane Ian damaged building reopens. Saturday at 8AM we'll be walking around the Tropical Sands Resort building on the south end. They opened back up last weekend after being closed down for repairs for 19 months following the storm.

There’s a New 12-Foot Wide Path Coming

Unfortunately it's not on any of the 7-mile stretch between the Matanzas Pass Bridge and the Big Carlos Pass Bridge. On Tuesday, Lee County Commissioners approved an agreement with Florida D.O.T. to design a 12-foot wide, mixed-use trail from the Big Carlos Pass Bridge to the Big Hickory Bridge.

Fort Myers Beach Tax Rolls Explode

On Monday Lee County Property Appraiser Matt Caldwell released estimated tax roll figures for the 2024 tax year. While all of Lee County will see an overall increase in value of 9.5%, Fort Myers Beach will see a jump in taxable value of 45.36%.

Myerside One Meeting Away From Final Approval

On Monday the Fort Myers Beach Town Council held the first of two public hearings to consider the new Myerside Resort. By a vote of 4-1 the Town Council voted to move the project onto the second public hearing where it's likely to be approved.

Chapel By The Sea Dissolving Congregation

Two years after Hurricane Ian destroyed the Chapel By The Sea church building on Estero Boulevard, the congregation will cease to exist. Church members were notified by letter that the church will dissolve September 30, 2024.
