Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille on Fort Myers Beach is celebrating its 15th anniversary of business. Doc Ford’s opened on the island in April 2009. The first Doc Ford's opened on Sanibel in 2003. There are also two locations in St. Petersburg.

At the group's annual meeting, held at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena Tuesday Night, the Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation distributed $93,000 in grants to beach non-profits and scholarships to qualifying 33931 students.

The big beach renourishment project the town was hoping to begin next month could be delayed again. Callan Marine has filed a bid protest after the town awarded the project to Ahtna Marine. Town Manager Andy Hyatt says he now has to huddle with the Town Attorney to see if this might delay the project.

Times Square property owner Terry Persaud has submitted a pre-application to build 24 hotel units on .5 acres of property he owns in Times Square. Currently the Times Square area is zoned for Restaurant & Retail.
