4 years after Hurricane Ian, Lee County this week approved the contract to repair Bowditch Park on Fort Myers Beach.
The $4 million project includes repairs to park buildings, boardwalks, parking areas, sidewalks, picnic areas, beach access points, trails, shelters and other park amenities, as well as replacement of the 22-slip boat dock.
The contract with Vantage Construction Services will be funded through Florida Division of Emergency Management Legislative Appropriations Program, Lee County’s general fund and Tourist Development Taxes on short-term lodgings.
As the county waited for the funding, design, and bidding process to slowly proceed, temporary bathroom trailers have been on the property and paid parking was available.
It will be another year before the park is finished and back open.
