We’ve heard from several businesses this week that Fort Myers Beach code enforcement employees have been going around to businesses to warn them that there is a mask ordinance in place that is 100% enforceable and their employees must wear masks.

This comes on the heels of Mayor Ray Murphy telling Town Manager Roger Hernstadt to “do your job” as it relates to enforcing the town’s mask ordinance which was passed on July 1st. Businesses face up to a $500 fine if they are ticketed for violating the mask ordinance.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued an Executive Order that stated: “the collection of all fines and penalties throughout the state associated with COVID-19 enforced upon individuals are suspended.”

Town attorney John Herin believes the town’s ordinance is enforceable on both businesses and individuals.
