Can You Have Fireworks And A Mask Mandate?

Fort Myers Beach continues to have a mask mandate and social distancing ordinance on the books with no end date. The only time the issue is ever discussed is when Councilman Dan Allers brings it up during council member items.

Lee County has never had a mask mandate.

Collier County’s mask mandate expired due to the Governor’s previous rulings that fines cannot be levied on Florida residents for violating the mask mandate.

On Sanibel the mask mandate policy is reviewed every Tuesday. As of this week, it’s still in place.

While Governor Ron DeSantis has made it clear he does not want Florida residents facing fines for violating any mask or social distancing ordinances passed by local governments, Town Attorney John Herin has advised the council the ordinance they have on the books is enforceable. The town has not issued a single ticket for violating its ordinance, although it has threatened businesses with a fine repeatedly.

The last time the ordinance was discussed was February 17th and by a 3-2 vote the council extended the mandate – without an end date – or a date to even bring the item back for discussion.

Don’t be surprised if the item is brought up for discussion again this Monday.
