On Monday the Fort Myers Beach Town Council must decide if the 2021 fireworks celebration will take place. The 2020 celebration was canceled and as of today there is still a mask and social distancing ordinance on the books.

The council will have to decide Monday in order to obtain all the necessary permits and documents in order to meet the deadlines needed to have the 4th of July celebration.

It appears a decision has already been made not to hold the annual 4th of July parade. The motion the council will consider says, “Due to the unknown status of the COVID-19 pandemic for the month of July, the July 4th parade is not being planned.”

The fireworks vendor, Garden State Fireworks, has been storing the fireworks since last year at a cost of $4,050.
