A new exhibit called Diving Into Decades debuts at the Estero Island Historic Society opens this Saturday at 11AM. This new exhibit will explore the fascinating eras of Fort Myers Beach.
Each exhibit will focus on a different era, highlighting the people, places and events that shaped our barrier island.
The inaugural exhibit focuses on the early chapters of island life, from the late 1800s to the 1920s. Learn about:
- The lives of early Cuban fisherfolk, who lived and fished seasonally on Fort Myers Beach
- The arrival and influence of the Koreshan Unity
- Original homesteadersÂ
- Creation of the first subdivisions and early development
EIHS President Ellie Bunting will launch this exhibit with a special presentation Saturday at 11AM in the historic 1921-built cottage at 161 Bay Road (behind the Beach School). Ellie will share early island history through images, stories and local insights.
