Demolition activities are underway at the pier as crews have begun removing portions of the remaining old structure. Current work includes demolition of the handrails, deck slabs, and pile caps in preparation for the upcoming extraction of the existing pilings.
As demolition progresses, Lee County and its contractor is reminding everyone in the area to continue to expect construction-related noise and activity near the project site. Removal of the existing piles will be a significant step in preparing for the new pier.
The entire project area is an active construction zone – both on the sand and in the water.
For everyone’s safety, beachgoers, swimmers, boaters and personal watercraft operators should remain a safe distance from the pier and all active construction operations.
