Another London Bay Delay

London Bay has asked the town to defer their Outrigger property presentation to the town Council until August. The Town Council does not meet in July. The special meeting scheduled for June 3rd specifically for this project has been canceled.

It’s unclear to everyone watching this play out what London Bay will come to the table with after being soundly rejected by the LPA this month (5-2). Town staff has also stated that the proposal on the table does not fit in with the town’s Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code.

Why would London Bay CEO Mark Wilson pull the project from the June meeting? Perhaps he may have gotten a vibe that he didn’t have 3 town council members ready to vote yes on the project and plans to revise it. If Wilson went to council on June 3rd and the project was voted down, London Bay would have to sit out for a year before making another presentation. If London Bay presents a project that doesn’t resemble what he showed the LPA, he’s risking having it remanded back to the LPA so that body (and staff) can look at what would be a new project. If that happens, that would push any Town Council vote closer to the November election. There are 3 seats on the ballot this year, John King’s seat, Rebecca Link’s seat, and John McLean’s seat. The deadline to file to run is June 12th.

The last version of the London Bay project included the condo building at 14 floors (158 feet in height). They added an additional floor to each of the other 3 buildings. Those three buildings are the three hotel/condo buildings which took them from 12 floors to 13, 11 floors to 12, and 9 floors to 10.

During the LPA debate on the project, London Bay asked for two continuances. The June 3rd Town Council meeting was set specifically to hear this project and that has now been canceled. In August, fewer people will be around to speak their mind about the project at public comment.

  1. What will Grandview residents get from this if it’s approved? Seems like a lot of LB support is coming from them. Will they get “rights” because they live in a LB development that other town residents won’t? Just looking for clarification.

  2. What London Bay and Town Council need to remember is that there was a Recall Election because of these issues and 67% of voting residences are opposed to overdevelopment. 67% of whoever is still here in August is still against LB.

    • Carol is correct! Consider the results of the recall election. If Mark Wilson gets up there in August and starts counting his letters (which hopefully will be from residents of FMB only), I hope someone from the town goes back and reads all the emails regarding LB since the project was first brought up. Many people will just write the one letter and not a new one for every time a meeting in town happens regarding LB.

    • 67% of the approximate half who voted in the recall. Do the math and this is 33% of all registered voters.

You do realize that half of the voters didn’t care enough to participate in the recall?

Only 33% of all registered voters are strongly opposed to overdevelopment and will go out of their way to make their voice heard.

By far the largest group of voters are the ones who say nothing and do nothing because it’s simply not important to them either way. That is why it’s called a SILENT MAJORITY. The majority remained silent in the recall election
