New Construction is Booming on Fort Myers Beach

$46.7 million in the last year alone, according to Lee County. And all of it is taxable. New construction includes homes, condos and businesses. When compared to 2021, it was a massive increase in new construction on Fort Myers Beach. Let’s take a deeper dive into the numbers.

The 2021 final new construction figure for Fort Myers Beach came in at $8.3 million, according to Lee County. The estimated 2022 new construction estimate of $46.7 million translates to a whopping 463% increase in new construction year-over-year.

Here’s how Fort Myers Beach stacked up against other communities in Lee County.

Over on Sanibel, the final new construction taxable figure came in at $12.4 million. Lee County estimates Sanibel will see $23 million in 2022, an increase of 87%

In Cape Coral, one of the fastest growing cities in all of Florida, Lee County projects that new construction will jump from $607 million in 2021 to $999.3 million in 2022, an increase of 64.5%.

The 2021 Bonita Springs new construction figure came in at $264.8 million. In 2022 Lee County estimates that number will decline to $248.5 million, a decrease of 6%

Overall in Lee County, there was $2.1 billion worth of new construction in 2021. The Lee County appraiser Matt Caldwell is estimating that in 2022 that number will come in at $3.3 billion, a 52% jump.
