On Thursday Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno held a press conference where he announced the remains found deep in the mangroves on Tropical Shores Way on Fort Myers Beach belonged to 82-year old Ilonka Knes. The cause of death was accidental drowning.
The remains were found earlier this week by a contractor working to clean the mangroves behind town hall. Marceno said the area the remains were found is impassable by boat and not visible by air.
Marceno also said there’s one person still missing in Lee County and a total of 74 people died in the September 28th storm.
