The Pets Have Been Blssed

(By Ellie Bunting) More than 19 dogs—and one very special chicken—received a St. Francis Day blessing at St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church on Saturday. Comfort Hall was filled with more than 40 pet owners and their furry and feathered friends as Father Michael Rowe personally blessed each animal and presented each owner with a St. Francis medal.

This year’s turnout was the largest in the history of St. Raphael’s annual Pet Blessing, a tradition at the church for at least 20 years.

The blessing was held in Comfort Hall, where everyone gathered for a short service featuring prayers, readings, and songs. People arrived with their pets in just about every way imaginable—by bicycle, golf cart, car, and on foot.

Following the service, Father Michael blessed each animal individually. Afterward, pets and their people enjoyed homemade treats, fellowship, and goodie bags to take home.

It was a joyful celebration of the animals who bring so much love and companionship into our lives.
