Tomorrow at noon, parents of kids on Fort Myers beach, many who lost everything in the Hurricane, will take part in the Beach Foundation’s annual Spirit of The Holiday event.
So many of you donated toys through our Facebook page and during our concert with Sheena Brook and D-Rox in Times Square.
This year’s event is being held at Skip One on San Carlos. Parents will pick out toys for their kids, the foundation will have a wrapping station, and the parents – uh Santa – will take them home for the kids so they have them under the tree when they wake up on Christmas Day.
In previous years the toys would be delivered by the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department to kids in the beach neighborhoods with Santa Claus on the fire truck calling out their names. Due to the damage done to Fort Myers Beach by Hurricane Ian, and the fact that many families were displaced by the storm, this modified event was created.
Using an Amazon wish list created by BTR follower Jessica Fluharty, with direction from the Beach Kids Foundation, you all loaded up Santa’s sleigh pretty nicely. On top of that, during our concert at Times Square, the donation pile grew even larger. Nearly everyone who attended the show brought a toy…or two…or three. Other organizations also donated toys for the cause this year.
It will be a very Merry Christmas for the kids on Fort Myers Beach.
