The Fort Myers Beach Town Council has called a special meeeting for today at 3PM so they can schedule a shade meeting to discuss a settlement with La Ola owner Thomas Houghton.
A shade meeting is held outside the public view. Legal settlements are pretty much the only issue that can be held behind closed doors.
La Ola has been involved in a court case regarding their Times Square shipping containers being in violation for years.
La Ola owner Tom Houghton appealed the town’s ruling and last week Circuit Court Judge Keith Kyle set a date of October 20th for oral arguments in the case. That most likely triggered this settlement proposal.
Houghton has been trying to purchase the property where La Ola sits and he plans to rebuild his restaurant in that spot. He’s also been working with JR Evans to build a wave mitigation wall.
Houghton plans to release new renderings of his rebuild in the next few weeks.

Love La Ola! We go there everytime we are at the beach.
FMB should pat LaOla’s current rent, they are (and have been since Ian) the only reason to go to Times Square. Personally, I love their current set up, it feels like the last sliver of Times Square before Ian.
The entire private session must be recorded by a certified court reporter, and the transcript must be made part of the public record once the litigation has concluded.
