Two Vacancies Coming To Sanibel Council

The Sanibel City Council is accepting resumes and biographies to fill the upcoming two vacant city council seats. Both appointments are for a partial term expiring March 16, 2021.

The first seat to be filled becomes vacant at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2020.  The deadline to submit for the first seat is Noon, Tuesday, October 20, 2020.  The Sanibel City Council will vote to fill the position at their meeting of Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

The second seat to be filled becomes vacant at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, November 16, 2020.  The Sanibel City Council will vote to fill the position at their meeting of Tuesday, December 1, 2020.  The submission deadline for the second seat is Noon, Thursday, November 5, 2020.

The seats coming up now belong to Mayor Kevin Ruane and Jason Maughan. Ruane is running for Lee County Commissioner and won his primary election. He’s expected to cruise to victory in the general election.

Maughan lost his primary race for state House seat to Adam Botana. Maughan is expected to pursue finishing out his term now that he’s no longer running for a state seat.

Any submittals received for the first seat and not appointed will be given full consideration for the appointment to the second seat.
