The Town of Fort Myers Beach is losing its current Town Manager Andy Hyatt, and now, its Finance Director. Joe Onzick, who was hired in March of 2023, gave his 30-day notice April 1st. It appears the number of hours he has to put in to get the job done was just too much.
In his resignation letter Onzick said, “It is with much difficulty that I have made my decision to resign as Finance Director. The extraordinary number of hours required to fulfill all of its responsibilities and meet its ongoing challenges has exhausted my capacity to do so.”
By all accounts, all 5 Town Council members and Town Manager Andy Hyatt were very happy with Onzick’s performance and will be disappointed to see him go.
Prior to joining the Town, Onzick served for 10 years as the Executive Director of Finance for Kane County, Illinois. In Illinois he also worked for Nexgen Software Technologies, Friendship Village, and Aurora University. Onzick has an MBA in Accounting from Aurora University and Bachelor’s of Science degree in mathematics from Wheaton College.
Onzick’s resignation letter listed everything he’s accomplished in the two years he’s been on the job. He also listed what still needed to be done. A list nearly as long as his accomplishments.
