Your Mask Mandate Could End Monday

After his request was ignored at the last town council meeting, councilman Dan Allers has succeeded at getting the mask mandate on the agenda. It is the very last item that will be discussed during Monday’s meeting.

Fort Myers Beach has had a mask mandate in place for over a year now. While no tickets have been issued, it has been used by town staff to threaten local businesses with $500 fines. At the same time, elected officials are frequently caught in public not social distancing or wearing masks.

Lee County has never had a mask mandate. Collier County let their mask mandate expire because Governor DeSantis has said he will not allow local governments to fine residents for not wearing a mask or social distancing.

  1. Might as well stop with the mandate. Maskers are going to wear masks. Non maskers aren’t going to. Hopefully the gain is that the faceoff between the maskers and non can finally stop without the mandate.

  2. Yes, but what about what Sanibel is doing? Suggestion: Forget and ignore what Sanibel does and just do what’s sensible … END the Fort Myers Beach mask mandate. Please.
