Lenell Light Approved by Lee County
Back on May 2nd, we reported that councilman Dan Allers, and others, were pursuing what it would take to get a flashing light installed at the Lenell Road crosswalk on Estero Boulevard. This week Lee County Commissioners approved $50,000 to install the light.
Mayor to Marceno: Tear Down This Sign
Fort Myers Beach Mayor Ray Murphy doesn't like seeing Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno's big face on the side of a trailer as you come over the Matanzas Pass Bridge. He says it's a violation of the town's sign ordinance and the town is giving Marceno free advertising for his next campaign.

Council Moves Toward Raising Your Millage Rate
Unless the public speaks up at the next budget public hearing on September 22nd, the millage rate on Fort Myers Beach will increase from .95 of $1,000 of assessed property value to .99. That's 18.68% higher than the roll-back rate of .83.
Herin Gets Another One Year Deal
On Thursday the Fort Myers Beach town council voted to extend the contract of attorney John Herin for another year. Herin is paid $10,500 per month ($126,000 per year) for general services and $225 per hour additional for special projects with a cap of $100,000.

Shell Museum Hosts 66 Girl Scouts
Earlier this year, the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum launched a new collaboration with the Girl Scouts of Gulf Coast. Last week 66 Girl Scouts of Cape Coral visited the museum, ranging in age from Daisies (Grades K-1) to Seniors (Grades 9-10).
Farmers Market Facing Astronomical Fee Increase
Linda Miller is the organizer of the Farmers Market at Beach Baptist and Santini Plaza on Fort Myers Beach. She's been working frantically to get the attention of the town council over Town Manager Roger Hernstadt's proposed fee increase, which would hit the popular Farmers Market she runs very hard.
Car Pulled From Matanzas Pass Preserve Pond
The investigation into the dead body found in a pond at the Matanzas Pass Preserve took a new turn Tuesday when Lee County deputies pulled this car from the water. LCSO is not yet saying whether the vehicle is related to the unidentified female found in that same pond a day earlier.
