In an effort to help alleviate the town's parking issue due to an abundance of construction in the downtown area, 35 parking spots at town hall are now available to the public on weekends.

(By Kim Ryan) The recent Friends of the Everglades Clean Water Conversations monthly zoom call focused on priorities for the upcoming state legislative session. I watched the meeting and wanted to share the details with everyone.

The Fort Myers Beach Town Council approved $26,880 to pay Sarah Propst to develop a Workforce Housing policy and work on the town's Comprehensive Plan. With rising real estate values and escalating rents, the town council has made it a priority to come up with a plan to find affordable housing for local workers. 

On Monday night Megan Allers and Stephanie Buboltz from the Fort Myers Beach Women's Club drew Linda Beasley's name and she won a $250 cash prize. Watch the drawing HERE. Elected officials from Lee, Charlotte and Collier counties are meeting Friday as part of the Southwest Florida Regional Resiliency Compact. Fort Myers Beach joined the group earlier this year. It's being organized by FGCU Professor Mike Savarese who we interviewed about the organization back in February.

On Wednesday night the place to be is at the Fort Myers Beach Women's Club meeting (men are welcome). FMB Chamber President Jacki Liszak will be the guest speaker. She'll cover what the Chamber does, legislative priorities, clean water and the economics of the island. The meeting begins at 6:30PM and the Club is located at 175 Sterling Avenue.

Friends of Lovers Key has announced two new photography classes at the Welcome and Discovery Center at Lovers Key State Park. The classes will be taught by Inna Malostovker and Carol Matthai and classes are limited to 12 people.

On October 6th at 12:00, the Sanibel-Captiva Chamber of Commerce will host a virtual meeting with Lee County Director of Parks and Recreation Jesse Lavender. Lavender will update Chamber members about the Sanibel Causeway projects that will follow erosion-control improvements on the Sanibel Causeway.
