Time to Scrap The Window Tint Ordinance

(By John King) This week the Town Council approved, 3 -2, moving forward with changing the window tinting regulation from 15% to 45%. Thank you to Mayor Murphy, Councilman Atterholt and Councilman Allers. I believe the whole ordinance should be scrapped and begun anew.

It’s A Do-Over For The Matanzas Pass Bridge Design

Back in January the Florida Department of Transportation presented this design to the Fort Myers Beach town council as part of its foot-of-the-bridge redesign. Due to feedback from the community this design, and a design that included a cantilever that would have expanded the bridge out for pedestrians, have both been spiked.

Gov Approves Money to Battle Red Tide

On Wednesday Governor DeSantis announced he would be committing nearly $14 million in the next state budget to help combat red tide. The funding will go to research FWC is conducting and the Mote Marine Laboratory, in addition to providing grants through the DEP for red tide cleanup.

Council To Roll Back Window Tint Ordinance

By a vote of 3-2 the Fort Myers Beach town council directed staff to start the process of rolling back an ordinance passed last year that required all new and replacement windows, that can be seen from the beach, use glass with an inside to outside light transmittance value of 15% or less.

Mediation Fails. The Lawsuit Goes On.

Fort Myers Beach Town Attorney John Herin told the town council Monday that, after four hours of mediation with Estero Boulevard resident Eddie Rood over his ADA lawsuit against the town, the mediation was very unsuccessful.
