Candidates Have Four Weeks To Get in The Race
And there are still only four candidates for the two open seats on the Fort Myers Beach Town Council. They are John King, Ray Murphy, Patrick Romcoe and Karen Woodson. The final day to qualify for the November election is June 17th.

Benefit For Baby Sophia Family is Tomorrow
The Shamrock is hosting a benefit for the Chartier family who lost their 6-year old daughter Sophia on May 10th to cancer. A dunk tank has been added to the festivities to help raise as much money as possible.

Mayor: Manager is Doing a Great Job
The Fort Myers Beach Town Council, as required by the town manager's contract, publicly reviewed Roger Hernstadt's job performance at their Monday meeting. Mayor Ray Murphy said of Hernstadt, I think you're doing a great job. Keep up the great work.
Window Tint Rollback Closer to Reality
But it will only be for replacement windows. New construction with lights that can be seen from the beach will still require windows that allow 15% inside to outside transmission. The council voted 3-2 to rollback the 15% to 45% for replacement projects.
There Are Now 70 Turtle Violation Investigations
The Fort Myers Beach town council wanted more enforcement of their sea turtle ordinance and that's exactly what they're getting. There are now 70 warnings that have been handed out for light violations and one to a jet ski operator.
Leonardo Arms Project Underway
While the residents of Leonardo Arms wait for a major Fort Myers Beach renourishment project to begin in the Summer of 2023, they've had to take matters into their own hands. The erosion behind building #2 (of 3) at Leonard Arms has gotten so bad, a portion of the parking lot collapsed back in March.

Florida Tourism is Booming
Florida welcomed 36 million total visitors between January and March 2022 according to VISIT FLORIDA estimates. That's a 14 percent increase from Q4 2021, and the third consecutive quarter that overall visitation has surpassed pre-pandemic levels.
