Council Moves Toward Raising Your Millage Rate
Unless the public speaks up at the next budget public hearing on September 22nd, the millage rate on Fort Myers Beach will increase from .95 of $1,000 of assessed property value to .99. That's 18.68% higher than the roll-back rate of .83.
Herin Gets Another One Year Deal
On Thursday the Fort Myers Beach town council voted to extend the contract of attorney John Herin for another year. Herin is paid $10,500 per month ($126,000 per year) for general services and $225 per hour additional for special projects with a cap of $100,000.
Meet the New CROW Veterinary Interns
Dr. Melanie Dittmer (right) and Dr. Kristie Schott have joined the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife as the newest Wildlife and Conservation Medicine Interns. They will be with the organization for a year.
Shell Museum Hosts 66 Girl Scouts
Earlier this year, the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum launched a new collaboration with the Girl Scouts of Gulf Coast. Last week 66 Girl Scouts of Cape Coral visited the museum, ranging in age from Daisies (Grades K-1) to Seniors (Grades 9-10).
Farmers Market Facing Astronomical Fee Increase
Linda Miller is the organizer of the Farmers Market at Beach Baptist and Santini Plaza on Fort Myers Beach. She's been working frantically to get the attention of the town council over Town Manager Roger Hernstadt's proposed fee increase, which would hit the popular Farmers Market she runs very hard.
Car Pulled From Matanzas Pass Preserve Pond
The investigation into the dead body found in a pond at the Matanzas Pass Preserve took a new turn Tuesday when Lee County deputies pulled this car from the water. LCSO is not yet saying whether the vehicle is related to the unidentified female found in that same pond a day earlier.
Governor Stops at Doc Ford’s For Endorsement
During a campaign event Tuesday, Governor Ron DeSantis arrived by boat at Doc Ford's to receive the endorsement of a group called the Everglades Trust. He was flanked by supportive business owners.
Millage Rate Increase On The Table This Thursday
Despite higher property values that will net Fort Myers Beach approximately $700,000 more for its next budget, and a slew of proposed fee increases, a resolution to raise the millage rate on residents is also on the agenda this Thursday.
Council to Consider Extending Herin Contract
At their 3PM meeting Thursday the Fort Myers Beach town council will consider extending town attorney John Herin's contract for another year. The one-year proposed contract extension does not include a fee increase.
Alleged Video Voyeur Appears in Court
Accused video voyeur, 58-year old Dana Alan Caruso, made his first appearance before a judge in Lee County Tuesday. He's facing multiple charges of video voyeurism for allegedly hiding a video camera in a new fire alarm in a bathroom at Bowman’s Beach Park on Sanibel.

It's called Commotion By The Ocean and it will be the first opportunity voters will get to see all four candidates sparring together for the two open seats on the Fort Myers Beach town council.
