As part of its 40th anniversary celebration this year and to connect individuals with the natural world, the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge has announced Wellness Week: Mind. Body. Heart. February 7-12.

Never a dull day on Fort Myers Beach. The Lee County Sheriff's Department is reporting that 39-year old James Austin was arrested after he beat up the owner of the Key Estero Shops.

(By Kim Ryan) According to FWC preliminary manatee mortality statistics (as of 12/24/21), Florida lost a staggering number of manatees in 2021 with the number sitting at 1,083.

Full Moon Yoga and Meditation will be held January 17th at Lovers Key State Park from 4:30PM to 6:00PM. The class will be led by an instructor from the Saba Movement Center and FMB Yoga Project.

The 16th annual Polar Bear Plunge took place this past weekend behind the Beach Bar on Fort Myers Beach. About 100 people looked on as over 50 plungers put their bodies in danger in the 75 degree water of the Gulf of Mexico.

The Friends of Lovers Key will be holding their first inaugural fundraising gala on March 26th will all proceeds going to Lovers Key State Park's educational programs and exhibits, and, toward at-risk children's camps and learning opportunities.

The Estero Island Historic Society will host a presentation by historian and acclaimed author Robert N. Macomber Monday, January 10th, at 7:00 p.m. at The Fort Myers Beach Library on Estero Boulevard. Macomber will present “A Florida Civil War Christmas.”

St Peter Lutheran Church has announced new worship hours now through Easter. You can beat the beach traffic and attend 8:00AM outdoor service, weather permitting. Bring a beach chair or borrow one from the church.

Earlier this month, former Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief Matt Love was sworn in as the new Chief in St Could Minnesota. Love was the Fire Chief on Fort Myers Beach from 2016 until late 2021 when he resigned to take the St. Cloud job.
