Basing his decision on statistics that claim 50% of the population has received the COVID-19 vaccination, Town Manager Roger Hernstadt has opened town hall.
Bruce Is Back
Former Fort Myers Beach Town Council member Bruce Butcher is returning to public service. Butcher was appointed to the Bay Oaks committee on Monday to fill an open seat. Butcher was elected to the town council in 2017. He ran for re-election in 2020 but, with three seats open, he came in 4th.
4th of July Fireworks Approved
On Monday, the town of Fort Myers Beach Town Council voted to approve 4th of July Fireworks. The vote was unanimous. The 2020 fireworks celebration was canceled due to COVID. There will not be a parade this year.

On Monday the Fort Myers Beach Town Council must decide if the 2021 fireworks celebration will take place. The 2020 celebration was canceled and as of today there is still a mask and social distancing ordinance on the books.

Rood Re-files His ADA Lawsuit Against The Town
The fight over a 1,491 foot boardwalk rages on. Fort Myers Beach Town Attorney John Herin told the LPA that the Americans with Disabilities Act lawsuit homeowner Eddie Rood filed against the town was dismissed by the court. Rood says that's a lie.
Two Lani Kai Murder Lawsuits Settled
Two lawsuits related to the July 2020 murder of 22-year old Johnny Jackson at the Lani Kai Motel have been settled out of court. At the time of the murder, Jackson was a hotel guest of his brother, Jordan Phillips, who was an employee of the Lani Kai at the time.

If the Fort Myers Beach town council follows its own rules, there are only two meetings to go (May 3 and May 17) to evaluate Town Manager Roger Hernstadt's performance. The Monday meeting agenda is out and his review is not on that agenda.
