Town Council Back Up To Five
On Thursday, at a special Town Council meeting, Scott Safford was appointed to fill the seat left vacant by Bill Veach when he quit at the end of 2023. Safford will be sworn in at the next Town Council meeting on February 20th.
February 20 is Important Deadline For Voters
The Lee County Elections Office says the deadline to register to vote or for registered voters to update their party affiliation for the upcoming Presidential Preference Primary is Tuesday, February 20. The PPP is March 19th. Registration and party affiliation changes must be made 29 days before an election.
How Important is Fort Myers Beach to Tourism?
Very important if your yardstick is bed tax revenue, the 5% tax Lee County collects on all short-term visits. From 2019 through 2022 Fort Myers Beach was the top collector of the tax, bringing in more than Estero, Fort Myers and Sanibel.

The Fort Myers Beach sand truck haul project began this week. 112,000 tons of beach compatible sand from a mine in Immokalee will replace sand eroded away by Hurricane Ian. The entire project is expected to take 3 months.   Â

After a flurry of activity yesterday, initiated by Fort Myers Beach Vice Mayor Jim Atterholt, the latest news about the 7-11 across from Santini Plaza is that FPL has moved the location up on its priority list. The monopoly now says it will get power to the 7-11 within 72 hours or less.
Town Takes Next Step To Foreclose on Illegal Parking Lot
For years the town has accused Key Estero Shops owner Carmine Naccarato of operating an illegal parking lot on his property on Estero Boulevard. On Monday the town was one step closer to foreclosing on Naccarato's property.
